Finding Storage in Any Space
Most of the time we get requests for storage solutions in small spaces, but the reality is that even large homes can feel like they're bursting at the seems. Whatever the size, when it comes to organizing a space with lots of belongings and limited storage - we always suggest a ruthless edit first. If that doesn't cut it, you can usually find additional storage by looking up - or down.
It sounds like a no-brainer, but vertical space is often overlooked. We've seen all the problem areas: builder grade closets with limited shelving, bathroom vanities without drawers, and garage clutter that makes it impossible to park. Use our simple tips to find storage in these and other spaces where you need it the most.
Stack Your Organizers
The easiest way to take advantage of vertical space is to stack. Choose organizers with a lid and place them on top of each other in lieu of adding shelves. Just be careful not to stack so high that they topple over.
Get Low with Floor Baskets
Large baskets are perfect on pantry and closet floors and in playroom corners. We've even used them to store rolled towels or toilet paper in bathrooms.
Use the Door
There are tons of door organizers out there but our favorite one is the elfa Over the Door Rack. It is uber customizable and more structured than similar products, meaning you won't have to worry about it swinging every time you open and close the door.
Add Shelving
Additional shelving is a game changer. If it's not in the budget to add custom shelves, consider a modular unit like IKEA Kallax or InterMetro. Elfa is another great way to add shelving and has tons of options, but can get pricey.
