How To Organize a Cabinet Pantry
It's time to embrace your small space! We know the struggle of trying to stay organized when food storage is limited to a few kitchen cupboards. We've tackled a good amount of pantry-less kitchens over the years and picked up some tips and tricks along the way. Let's talk about how to maximize every inch of space in a small cabinet pantry.
Add shelves.
When necessary, we like to have shelves cut to fit our client's cabinets, but that isn't always an option. Adding a modular shelf and can risers is the next best thing to take advantage of unused vertical space.
Select stacking bins.
Another way to max out your vertical space is by selecting bins that stack. We like these bamboo bins for individual packaged snacks but any lidded bin or small basket works too. Just make sure your items aren't too tall with the lid closed.
Use canisters.
Stack up and stagger canisters with a flat lid, for frequently used items with packaging that doesn't reseal. Flour, sugar, coffee, and pancake mix are a few items we like to decant. Using canisters is also a great way to avoid dealing with tall boxes that weren't made with fixed shelving in mind.
Go transparent.
Upper cabinets make it harder to see what you have. Do yourself a favor and use transparent bins or baskets and canisters so you can easily see what you have. Keeping categories binned will also make it easier to access items in the back.
Be mindful.
When you're out grocery shopping, keep in mind how much space you have in your cupboard. If the snack bin is full, eat what you have before buying more. Small space living means always asking yourself if you have room to store what you're about to buy. It might take practice, but once you start adopting this mindset, you'll be much more likely to stay organized.
